God’s First Commission To Us

Image
“Fill the earth and govern it.” Genesis 1:28  The first thing God told Adam and Eve to do was “fill the earth and govern it.” Because Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden of Eden doesn’t mean they were limited to the Garden of Eden. God told them to “fill the earth and govern it.” Stop and think about it. God was inviting Adam and Eve to explore. Everything outside Eden was uncharted territory. They could travel 24,759 miles in any direction and never see the same landscape twice. There were 196,949,970 square miles of virgin territory to explore. One way we glorify God is by exploring and educating ourselves about everything He has created. One author explains: “The astronomer who charts the stars, the geneticist who maps the human genome, the researcher who seeks a cure for Parkinson’s disease, the oceanographer who explores the barrier reef, the ornithologist who studies and preserves rare bird species, the physicist who tries to catch quarks, the chemist who chart

What are the attributes of God? What is God like?

Image
The Bible, which is the Word of God, tells us what God is like and what He is not like. Without the authority of the Bible, any explanation of God's attributes will be no better than a mere idea of God, which is itself flawed (Job 42:7). It is important to say that this is a very low level sentence in an effort to understand what God is like! Failure to do this will cause us to create, follow, and worship other false gods that are contrary to God's will (Exodus 20:3-5). Only what God has chosen to reveal about Himself can be known. One of God's attributes or qualities is "light," which means that He reveals information about Himself (Isaiah 60:19; James 1:17). The fact is that God himself has given information about himself that should not be ignored (Hebrews 4:1). The creation, the Bible, and the Word (Jesus Christ) who became flesh will help us know what God is like. We begin by understanding that God is our Creator and that we are a part of His crea

Humble yourself

“Those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Luke 18:14    Jesus said: “Two men went to the Temple to pray. One was a Pharisee, and the other was a despised tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed this prayer: ‘I thank you, God, that I am not like other people—cheaters, sinners, adulterers. I’m certainly not like that tax collector! I fast twice a week, and I give you a tenth of my income.’ But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, ‘O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.’ I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted” . You can appear to be the most devout person in church yet have a heart filled with pride. And the worst part is that you don’t know it. For example, when you

Will my life get better if I become a Christian.?

Q: My husband and I have prayed for our son for years. We raised him in a Christian home and led him to the Lord when he was a teenager. After a failed marriage and crashed career, he has left the faith saying that Christianity didn’t deliver the charmed life he expected. Isn’t this just a cop-out? A: From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham Any belief system that claims “happy-ever-after endings” on Earth is deceitful. There are many voices claiming that becoming a Christian erases all problems; that it will lead to earthly wealth and success. This is not true. Becoming a believer in Christ is a wonderful new beginning, but it isn’t the end of pain or problems. It is the beginning of facing up to them. Being a Christian involves a lifetime of hard work, dedicated study, and difficult decisions. If we have our eyes upon ourselves, our problems, and our pain, we cannot lift our eyes upward. Living the Christian life is serious business. The majority of difficulties believe
