How can I get started reading the Bible?

Image
Q. I actually made a New Year's resolution to read the Bible every day (like my grandmother did), but I got bogged down and finally gave up. Maybe you could give me some pointers. A. I’m thankful for your grandmother’s example; even if she didn’t realize it, she was showing you what is really important in life: living by God’s Word. She knew the truth of the Psalmist’s words: “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path” (Psalm 119:105). Let me suggest three things to help you get started with your reading of the Bible. First, use a modern translation you can understand; if you don’t already have one, your pastor or local Christian bookseller can give you suggestions. Be sure also it has type that’s easy to read. (My wife used to say that the devil liked nothing better than a Bible with print that was too small to read!) Second, start with one of the Gospels in the New Testament (I often suggest John). The reason is because the whole Bible points to Jesus Christ

Billy Graham Answers on Abortion(Bible according) part-1.?

Image
Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Psalm 100:3  With varying abortion laws throughout our country, it’s important to note what the Bible says about the issue. Throughout God’s Word, it’s clear that human life is precious to Him. More than ever, we need Biblical answers to questions regarding abortion and the sanctity of life. Billy Graham once said, “I know it’s common today to think of abortion as a simple answer to an inconvenient problem—but it is actually a far more serious issue. Your child isn’t simply a mass of tissue; he or she is a human being in God’s eyes.” Here are a few My Answers from the evangelist. Q: I’m single, pregnant, and don’t know what to do..? A: I know it’s common to think of abortion as a simple answer to an inconvenient problem, but it’s a far more serious issue. * Q.1 I'm single and pregnant and don't know what to do. My boyfriend abandoned me when he found

Noah The pattern of God providing salvation for his people through the waters reappears with the chaotic waters of the flood narrative in Genesis 6-8. The flood is presented as a state of “de-creation.” The springs of the cosmic deep water (Heb. tehom) split (Heb. baqa), and the windows of the heavens are opened, reversing days two and three of creation  (In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day, all the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the windows of heaven were opened–Genesis 7:11). You read this verse and understand what God is telling you and what God wants from you. According to BibleStudyTools.com, Jesus' Baptism is mentioned in the Gospel Bible books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. In this story, we see that Jesus approaches John and asks to be baptized. John had been proclaiming the Gospel and baptizing those who repent of their sin, want to make right their relationship with God, and await the coming Messiah. John is astonished that Jesus, the sinless Son of God, is requesting to be baptized as John felt like he should be the one asking Jesus to baptize him!  Jesus tells John that His baptism is "fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness". Jesus is baptized as a symbol of giving His will up to His Father and the beginning of His earthly ministry. When Jesus comes up out of the water, John sees the Spirit of God desce

Jesus, the Shining Great High Priest.

You read this verse and understand what God is telling you and what God wants from you. This all leads up to a pinnacle scene in Matthew’s Gospel account, where Jesus appears as a priest shining on a mountain. This scene is known as the transfiguration. When Jesus is transfigured (Greek, metamorphoō) on the mountain, his face shines and his clothes become “as white as the light” (Matthew 17:2) . Jesus’ shining face recalls Moses in Exodus 34:29-35 , and the garments white as light recall the shimmering priestly garments in Exodus 28 . The fact that the priestly garments are described as shining is significant—it’s part of the uncorrupted image of God, the ideal humanity. The author of Hebrews describes Jesus as a greater Moses. Hebrews 3:3 . And as a greater Moses, Jesus, the shining royal priest, lives to intercede for his people Hebrews 7:25 .And in the greatest

What does the book of songs of Solomon say about love.?

Note..:- Please read this blog till the ending. May the Today Bible verses help you build a spiritual relationship with God. You read this verse and understand what God is telling you and what God wants from you. Song of Songs is Hebrew love poetry that depicts the beauty and mystery of sexual love within the context of marriage, one of God's gifts to humanity.  What is Hebrew love poetry doing in the Bible? A peculiar book in the Bible, the Song of Songs, also known as the Song of Solomon, is not technically a book. It's a love song between two lovers! On its basic level of meaning, this book is racy Hebrew love poetry, but in Proverbs, we see humanity’s pursuit of wisdom portrayed by the symbolism of a man pursuing a woman in a garden. So the song works on two levels—it’s celebrating human’s desire for intimacy and pointing to humanity’s ultimate purpose: to be united with God and his wisdom. Reunited in a Garden. When you read Song of Songs, you may notice severa
