The laws given in the book of Leviticus were given to Moses by God at or near Mount Sinai. The Israelites camped there for some time.

Author..—The last verse of the book settles the author's question, “These are the commands Jehovah gave to Israel at Mount Sinai to Moses” (27:34; cf. 7:38; 25). :1; 26:46). 
There are many historical details related to the law in this book (8:10; 24:10-23). 
The word Leviticus is derived from the tribe of Levi, whose members were set apart by God to be priests and to take the lead in worship. This book describes the responsibilities of the Levites, more importantly

circa 1446 - 1405 BC author was writing this book.

Receiver..—This book was written for all generations of priests, Levites, and Israelites.

Purpose..—The book of Leviticus begins with God calling out to Moses from the tabernacle. In the book of Leviticus, the redeemed community is given proper communion with their glorious God. That community had fled Egypt and renounced its culture and religion. Now they were going to enter Canaan where other cultures and religions would influence that nation. the book of levity
