THE LOVE OF THE TRUTH

And with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. — 2 Thessalonians 2:10

The apostles Paul wrote about a certain group of people who "did not receive the love of the truth" (2 Thessalonians 2:10). It is important to note that Paul did not say that those who _know_ the truth would be saved. He states that only those who "love the truth" will receive eternal life.
Churches are crowed with people who "know" the truth. It isn't hard to find people with an in-depth knowledge of prophecy or a deep understanding of doctrine. But painfully, often, people with a high biblical IQ have a weak grasp of what it means to be a true Christian. Someone once said that "the strongest argument in favor of the gospel is a loving and lovable Christian," yet it is clearly possible to major in knowledge while failing to experience transformation. You can possess all the truth you want, but only when Jesus touches your heart does the truth start to make a difference.
Salvation is about much more than theory. You can be right and still be wrong. The Pharises in Jesus' day were right about an awful lot, but while practicing their religion, they were plotting to murder the Messiah.
When correctly experienced, truth result in transformation. For some, more truth merely allows them to be more "tight." God's plan is that more "truth" will result in His children becoming more _"right with Him."_ The ultimate manifestation of truth isn't a doctrine or a prophecy or a scriptural interpretation. The ultimate manifestation of truth is a Person—Jesus. As we advance in the light shining from the Bible, our characters should continue to develop so that we become more like Him.
Loving the truth isn't simply a matter of loving pure doctrine or loving correct biblical principles. It is true that those things are important. _Very_ important. But any form of truth that doesn't result in its possessor becoming more like the Truth isn't truth at all.
